Research joy! I am completely blown away by the work of Swedish sculptor Asmund Arle and his emotional connection to the horses he portrayed. Going through letters written by Arle and documentation of his studio brings me so much joy. Asmund ❤️.

The second slide is of a life size sculpture of a horse rolling in the grass made for Helsingborg and the residential area of Fredriksdal. First placed on a square, but after complaints about the “nakedness” of the horse it was moved in between the houses onto a lawn. Trying to figure out if the horse is still there, frolicking in the grass.

As part of the exhibition at Skissernas Museum I will show sketches in graphite and plaster by Asmund Arle.

I’m in the final phase of this large scale 2x2 m

I’m in the final phase of this large scale 2x2 meters graphite drawing I’ve been working on for the last six months. Soon the practice of rubbing graphite into paper, for that specific metallic surface I’m obsessed with, will be over for this time, and as much as I’m longing for a break I will miss this weird and brain numbing process as soon as it’s over. If you want to see the drawing irl come to Lund and visit @skissernasmuseum between June and November.

This Friday, 13th of September, 15.00-17.00 we invite you to Um…Crits led by Guest Artist and Researcher EvaMarie Lindahl.

For this session we will dig into ways of working with the history of your field. How do you use the architecture/design/craft or art history in your own research and production?

EvaMarie Lindahl, PhD, is a visual artist and researcher based in Sweden. Her research-driven art projects are situated in the intersection of Critical Animal Studies, the visual arts and activism. Lindahl has developed an art practice that encompasses large-scale graphite drawings as well as text-based performance work and collective self-organisation. Through her projects, Lindahl is questioning the writing of art history from an anthropocentric and patriarchal position by correcting, re-writing and imagining new (art) histories. This has developed into an art practice that could be called art history activism. In her current work, she is questioning the human-animal dichotomy and addressing the human habit of oppressing other animals by using them as resource and material in art production.

During her 1 week residency at UmArts, Lindahl will explore the painful practice of tail docking in horses, examining how this distressing tradition can be traced throughout paintings in art history.

I’m happy to officially announce that Skissernas Museum has invited me to exhibit in their major gallery for the summer/autumn of 2025. During this spring I’ve started off with diving into the art collection of Lund University while searching to find portrayed non-human animals. My finding spans from the etchings of horses by Albrecht Dürer to a drawing of a dog by Bianca Maria Barmen. I’m still in the beginning of this process but I can tell you two things: There will be horses; Rosa Bonheur will have a central part. Mark your calendars.

“Skissernas Museum has invited artist and researcher EvaMarie Lindahl for new readings and artistic investigations of the museum’s and Lund University’s art collections. Through the artist’s perspective and contemporary art as an entry point, Lindahl explores the history of collecting and the individuals and stories hidden within the collection. Her work is presented in a comprehensive exhibition at Skissernas Museum opening in June 2025. The exhibition features both newly produced and older works by Lindahl that correspond in various ways with selected works from the collections. A central piece in the exhibition is the extensive and large-scale installation Archive of Lost Tales, which is one of her ongoing artistic research projects.

Lindahl’s research-based art projects are situated at the intersection of critical animal studies and visual art. She has developed an art practice that encompasses large-scale pencil drawings as well as text-based performance works. In her projects, Lindahl continually questions the writing of art history from an anthropocentric and patriarchal position by rewriting, reimagining, and envisioning new (art) histories. The Boulevard of men is a video work about the horses at the horse market in Paris and how the French animal painter Rosa Bonheur portrays them in the painting The Horse Fair (1852-1855). The video imagines the experiences of the horses sold and slaughtered and the ordeal and realities of Bonheur when portraying them. What have the non-human animals that Bonheur portrays in common with the artist? What are their shared experiences of not being in power?

So much to read! I especially appreciate the interviews with and texts by artists, that are incorporated as a reader in the last chapter of the book.

At the end of 2023 @askaforlag decided to gather a large number of poets in an anthology in solidarity with and in support of the people of Palestine and I (EvaMarie) was deeply honoured when asked to design the cover for the book.

“En viktlös skärva av tid i Gaza – En poetisk antologi för stöd för Palestina” is now released and can be ordered at @askaforlag Several book releases are planned in Malmö (16/5), Stockholm (23/5 and 25/5), Umeå (25/5), Gävle (1/6), Göteborg (11/6).

Ten years ago today, we (@ditte_ejlerskov and @evamarie_lindahl_studio) finalised five years of work with the opening of About: The Blank Pages at Malmö Konsthall. Earlier during the day we had been interviewed by @sverigesradio and we were quite annoyed by the journalist asking us questions like: “But what if there haven’t been any great women artists?”

Ten years later the bookshelves and 200 books of About: The Blank Pages are on display in Dallas at @warehousedallas and we can’t imagine we would be asked that annoying question now. But even though the discourse might have moved forward, and the critique regarding the narratives and writing of art history is alive and kicking, Taschen’s Basic Art series still has a lot of work to do when it comes to gender representation. In what they claim to be a “revised, freshly designed” makover from 2019 the number of monographs of women drops from FIVE to only THREE.

Thank you all who have engaged in this work during exhibitions when flipping through books, taking photos and sharing and speaking about the blank pages of the books. Thank you every journalist that has interviewed us and given us a chance to speak about the installation on television, radio and in newspapers. Thank you each and everyone who has presented and thereby activated the work: @malmokonsthall @ystadskonstmuseum @boras_konstmuseum @kristianstadskonsthall @kvhistmuseum @masp @spectagallery @arkenmuseum @warehousedallas. Thank you @masp @arkenmuseum and @malmokonstmuseum for safely caring for the editions.
